HaRav Shmuel Berenbaum zt"l

Thousands were on hand for the levaya in Flatbush and
Jerusalem of HaRav Shmuel Berenbaum zt"l, rosh yeshiva
of Yeshivas Mir in the US and one of the great marbitzei
Torah of the generation. Among the few remaining
survivors of the pre-War generation of Lithuanian Torah
gedolim and a foundation stone of today's Torah world
in the US, HaRav Berenbaum taught thousands of students over
the course of 50 years.

communities was recently uncovered.
Foreign Minister Calls for Conversion Leniencies

Rabbonim, dayonim and public figures were outraged following
remarks by Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni during a cabinet
meeting about easing conversion procedures for hundreds of
thousands of immigrants who received Israeli citizenship
based on the Law of Return. "Any attempt to intervene in
halachic matters is wholly unacceptable," said rabbonim.
Ukraine Pledges to Grant R' Nachman's Grave Legal
Protection

During a visit by ranking Israeli Foreign Ministry officials
in the Ukraine, officials from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry
and President Victor Yushchenko's personal advisor pledged to
defend the gravesite of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov against any
legal suits and to turn it into a national heritage site to
prevent local businessmen from taking over the site following
a legal dispute.
Government Investigating Committee to Look into Failures
in Handling Holocaust Survivors

In a rare move the Knesset State Control Committee decided to
set up a government investigating committee to look into
successive Israeli governments' failures in handling
Holocaust reparations and general aid for Holocaust
survivors.
