Chinuch Atzmai Busing Crisis Finally Resolved

After a crisis that lasted for months, Education Minister Yuli Tamir agreed — after extensive pressure from MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni — to transfer all of the funding needed to pay busing costs, including both past debts and for the coming school year. The announcement made it possible for Chinuch Atzmai to open the school year at all of its institutions around the country.

An important achievement for the children of Beitar Illit and Modi'in Illit: Rabbi Yitzchok Pindrus, mayor of Beitar Illit and chairman of the Forum of Chareidi Authorities at the Center for Local Government, reached a final agreement with Education Minister Yuli Tamir according to which the Prime Minister's Office, in cooperation with the Education Ministry, will fund the hot-lunch program as a pilot project in the two chareidi cities using funds provided by the government and the Sacta-Rashi Foundation.

School Year Opens Smoothly

The 5767 school year opened on Sunday (September 3) with hardly a hitch as 99 percent of students went back to class, the Education Ministry reported. At 48 schools studies were delayed for various reasons: lack of guards, lack of air conditioners, cellular antennas in close proximity to the school, discrimination, renovation work and budget problems were some of the reasons cited.
